People living in a sheltered housing complex have been told by their local council to stop playing bingo for cash. The game has been played at Harry Taylor House in Redditch, Worcestershire, for almost 40 years and its current residents pay between £1 and £6 depending on the number of lines. But Redditch Borough Council has asked them to stop shouting “house” for cash prizes. A spokesperson said: “The Gambling Act 2005 makes it very clear that you cannot charge for participation in the game and that in turn the prizes cannot be made up of moneys paid to participate.”
